Project Summary
This project involved the remedial excavation and disposal of contaminated soil from a former tank farm/oil loading facility in a community area.
Project Scope
Site area preparation including stripping gravel, topsoil and brush clearing
Identification and removal of underground utilities (two pipeline segments and seventeen groundwater monitoring wells)
Including asbestos abatement of pipeline coating.
Construction of three temporary soil storage cells with impermeable liners
Remedial excavation of 51,000 metric tons of soil that have been contaminated
Transported 41,000 tons to a landfill approved for hazardous waste, and 10,000 tons of marginally impacted soils stockpiled and then put into treatment cells
Created a large area where water can soak into the ground (infiltration gallery) that's 2800 square meters
Completed project by hauling and backfill, site grading, and fencing
Over 4000 loads of material were transported from the site to the Class 2 (hazardous waste) landfill through the community area without incident or complaint
