The Government of Alberta has recently announced details of the new $1 billion Federal Support Package fund provided to Alberta by the Federal Government to clean up inactive oil and gas wells in the province. The Site Rehabilitation Program will provide grants to oil field service contractors to perform well, pipeline, and oil and gas site closure and reclamation work, creating jobs and supporting the environment. This program is expected to create about 5,300 direct jobs and lead to the cleanup of thousands of sites.

This program will launch on May 1, with an initial focus on providing grants to service companies that have been significantly impacted by the unprecedented economic downturn. The program will provide funds in $100-million increments.
