Project Summary
As our client progresses their mining operation, they intend to utilize a portion of the pit to store tailings which requires the installation of an engineered, competent base. A key component of this work is removing slop and unsuitable material from the existing ground that is left over from the previous mining operation. Morgan was contracted to remove this material, which varies in consistency from frozen common fill to a slurry-like mixture of water and mud, and haul to designated dumpsites out of the pond bottom footprint. We have effectively managed this scope over multiple construction seasons, working adjacent to mining operations, and through competing priorities in advance of mine placement.
Project Scope
Excavated waste material that was unsuitable for mine placement at depths ranging from 1 meter to 5 meters
Removed and transported unsuitable material totaling 5,432,840 m3
Removed and dumped 500,000 m3 of self-leveling material
Managed and removed self-leveling slurry from the clean-up area.
Built temporary access roads and padding for multiple excavation and dumpsite locations
Continuously managed and removed water from sumps/ponds
Used ripping and windrowing techniques to handle frozen material
Developed industry-leading practices for managing self-leveling slurry in excavations
