Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director, Business Development, Mining (Director) is responsible for planning and identifying new business opportunities to meet Morgan’s growth and diversification goals by fostering current relationships and developing new business opportunities and partnerships throughout Eastern Canada, British Columbia, and the United States. Primarily based out of Ontario, and with regular travel across Canada and the United States, the Director will bring credible knowledge of the mining industry, have a strong connection to mining and heavy civil prospects, and a solid track record of business development strategies and revenue generation.


  • Leverage current mining and heavy civil construction network in the Ontario and British Columbia markets to stimulate new opportunities for the company;
  • Engage in market scanning, gathering intelligence, industry awareness, competitive activities, and trending to ensure Morgan is positioned well in the market;
  • Take initiative to stay current on environmental, political and market changes to identify new business opportunities;
  • Proactively investigate newly announced mining and civil construction opportunities to determine if the opportunity is right for Morgan;
  • Initiate competitive evaluations to ascertain key competitor's’ strengths, weaknesses, and areas where Morgan has the competitive advantage. Develop a communication and marketing plan to highlight the competitive advantages to prospective and existing clients;
  • Facilitate the introduction of new prospects to Morgan by highlighting our value proposition and services;
  • Identify opportunities to evolve through partnership and communication with internal and external clients;
  • Working closely with Estimating and Operations, actively support the bidding process of potential work;
  • Solicit feedback from prospective clients on unsuccessful bids to determine key reasons for loss of business;
  • Establish business partnerships in a way that is honest, competitive, and in alignment with Morgan’s Pillars of Excellence and Values;
  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements, and working through roadblocks to a positive conclusion. Using a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate where appropriate; and
  • Accountable for the creation, management, tracking, and successful execution of all key performance indicators.

  • Highly motivated, persistent, and productive with high EQ, and an aptitude for external stakeholder engagement;
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Operates with a self-starter attitude, constantly searching for potential opportunities in response to business needs;
  • Participates and contributes as a member of the management team and seek to build collaborative relationships with all parties involved; and
  • Able and willing to travel to the opportunities.
