SUMMARY: • Reporting to the Equipment Maintenance Manager, this newly created role will direct and support the planning, management and execution of equipment repairs with the objective of: enhancing profitability, productivity and efficiency; meeting schedules and safety standards; maximizing equipment utilization; and achieving corporate satisfaction objectives. In addition, this key role will provide personal leadership to create positive and productive relationships with all internal and external parties to maximize performance and results. Direct reports include: Maintenance Foreman, Administrator and Mechanics and may also include Mechanic Apprentices, Fuel/ Lube Technicians, Servicemen, Parts Runner as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Safety • Lead by example by placing safety as the highest value. • Ensure compliance of Morgan’s and client’s regulatory safe work practices and work procedures. • Responsible for leading and motivating direct reports to achieve and exceed project safety standards; site productivity, and achieve their personal/professional growth objectives. • Support all HSE initiatives and requirements for project and actively promotes adherence and personal responsibility to employees on site; attends daily toolbox meetings. • Performs frequent site inspections of the work to confirm progress, identify issues, assist in resolving problems, provide technical guidance, evaluate performance of Maintenance Foremen, confirm safety practices are being followed, and ensure quality workmanship in accordance with the plans and specifications. • Prepares Standard Operating Procedures for Foremen to follow, revises them as required for job progress and changes in scope Leadership • Ensure the corporate values / standards of business conduct / human resource philosophy is understood, embraced and implemented throughout the Department; and personally, demonstrates the same in daily interactions and relationships. • Establish and model a culture of making project decisions based on achieving and enhancing project profitability, meeting schedules, maintaining customer satisfaction, increasing field productivity and safety and in consideration of constraints and resources. • Responsible for leading and motivating direct reports to achieve and exceed project safety standards; site productivity, and achieve their personal/professional growth objectives. • Develop a clear understanding of the scope of work so as to quickly identify any field conditions or client requests that are necessary to perform maintenance on the work sites. • Coordinate the repair and schedules for on-going maintenance and preventive maintenance on their assigned work sites with the Operations designate. • Provide daily direction and regular support to Maintenance Foreman and other maintenance staff based on job priorities, progress, and jobsite issues and conflicts, in order to mitigate costs, build relationships, sustain quality of work, and eliminate schedule impacts. • Be visible in the field and act as a natural go-to resource to the Maintenance Foreman and field mechanics for technical input/troubleshooting. • Evaluate current and projected work flows and initiate re-allocation or re-prioritizing of maintenance personnel to meet priorities within an assigned area. • Monitor equipment and labour costs against budget to ensure maintenance is within internal and operational budgets. • Accurately assign WBS or job cost codes to all the work carried out on the project by both MCEL staff and third-party providers. • Maintain relationships with equipment suppliers, parts suppliers, and 3rd party service shops to facilitate Morgan equipment repairs. • Prepare a manpower plan identifying required field staff, their qualifications, and the expected time they will be required on-site. • Proactively advise the Equipment Maintenance Manager if a shortage or excess in maintenance staff are anticipated and works to maintain the correct level of support. • Provide a disciplined approach to all repair and maintenance reporting and documentation from all staff, with accurate and timely recording and reporting of all service and maintenance costs, work hours, equipment hour meters, purchase orders, and administrative details. • Assist the Equipment Maintenance Manager with evaluating various fleet items, and the advisability of continued repairs, overhauls, etc. • Manage offsite subcontractors such as welders, pressure washers, outside mechanical companies (eg. Brandt, Finning). • Demonstrate and practice the avoidance of silo thinking and behaviours between departments, branches and projects – reinforces the priority of overall organizational success. Responsible to take best practices from a site and implement throughout the work. • Review detailed monthly job cost reports with Equipment Maintenance Manager and compare to project budget to ensure costs are accurate, financial results are being achieved, or remedial actions are developed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Proven experience working within a strong safety culture and leading others in the same. • Possesses strong written and verbal communications skills. • Proven ability to supervise and motivate others. • Attention to detail, ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines. • Highly organized and able to work on multiple, competing priorities at any one time.
• At least 5 years of progressive experience leading a maintenance team, ideally in various locations.
• A minimum of five years’ experience maintaining heavy equipment.
• Must be a licensed mechanic. • Must be willing to spend majority of time in the field.
